Common Mistakes When Using the Myzox DT-110U Digital Theodolite Malaysia
10 Common Mistakes to Avoid When Using the Myzox DT-110U Digital Theodolite Malaysia
Introduction
The Myzox DT-110U Digital Theodolite is designed to deliver accurate horizontal and vertical angle measurements for construction and surveying applications. However, even the best surveying instrument can produce inaccurate results if it is not used correctly.
Whether you are an experienced surveyor or a beginner, avoiding common mistakes will improve measurement accuracy, increase efficiency, and extend the lifespan of your equipment.
Here are ten mistakes to avoid when using the Myzox DT-110U.
1. Skipping Proper Leveling
One of the most common mistakes is failing to level the instrument correctly.
If the theodolite is not perfectly level:
Horizontal angle readings may be inaccurate.
Vertical angle measurements can be affected.
Construction layout errors may occur.
Always check both the circular and plate bubbles before starting work.
2. Poor Tripod Setup
A weak or unstable tripod setup can cause the instrument to shift during measurement.
For the best stability:
Spread the tripod legs evenly.
Press the legs firmly into the ground.
Tighten all locking clamps.
Avoid soft or unstable surfaces whenever possible.
3. Incorrect Centering
The instrument must be positioned directly above the survey point.
Improper centering can lead to cumulative errors throughout the project, especially on long-distance alignments.
Always use the optical plummet carefully and recheck the position after leveling.
4. Forgetting to Focus the Telescope
Some users begin measuring before achieving a sharp image.
A properly focused telescope provides:
Clear target visibility
Better aiming accuracy
Reduced eye strain
More consistent measurements
Take a few extra seconds to adjust the eyepiece and objective focus.
5. Ignoring Battery Status
Running out of power during a survey can delay the project.
Before leaving for the site:
Check the battery level.
Carry spare batteries.
Replace weak batteries before important work begins.
6. Working with Dirty Lenses
Dust, fingerprints, or moisture on the lenses can make it difficult to identify the target accurately.
Clean the optics using:
A lens brush
A microfiber cloth
Approved lens-cleaning solution
Never use rough fabrics or paper tissues that may scratch the lens.
7. Failing to Verify Calibration
Even if the instrument appears to be functioning normally, calibration should be checked periodically.
Calibration is particularly important:
After transportation
Following accidental impacts
Before major projects
As part of scheduled maintenance
Routine calibration helps ensure reliable measurement results.
8. Recording Measurements Incorrectly
Human error can occur even with digital displays.
To minimise mistakes:
Double-check every reading.
Confirm the correct unit of measurement.
Verify point numbers before recording.
Repeat critical measurements whenever necessary.
9. Leaving the Instrument Exposed
Avoid exposing the Myzox DT-110U to unnecessary environmental conditions such as:
Heavy rain
Direct sunlight for long periods
Excessive dust
Strong impacts
Use the protective carrying case whenever the instrument is not in use.
10. Skipping Final Checks
Before leaving the site, verify that:
All required measurements have been completed.
Data has been recorded accurately.
The instrument is switched off.
The telescope is locked.
The equipment is safely packed for transport.
This simple routine prevents unnecessary return visits and protects the instrument.
Best Practices for Accurate Surveying
To achieve the best results with the Myzox DT-110U:
Level the instrument carefully.
Use a stable tripod.
Focus the telescope properly.
Perform regular maintenance.
Verify calibration periodically.
Handle the instrument with care.
Record measurements systematically.
These habits improve both efficiency and measurement reliability.
