The UNI-T LM320E is a compact digital angle meter designed for checking angles, slopes and alignment during installation work.

It combines digital angle measurement with two projected laser lines.

This allows the user to measure the angle at the instrument and extend a visible reference toward another position.

The LM320E may be useful for:

Machinery installation

Steel fabrication

Pipe and bracket installation

Cabinet installation

Shelving work

Building maintenance

Renovation

Equipment levelling

Slope checking

Angle transfer

For contractors and maintenance teams in Malaysia, the LM320E is more versatile than a basic digital angle meter when a visible reference line is also required.

What Can the UNI-T LM320E Measure?

The LM320E has a 4 × 90° angle-measurement range.

It can be used to check whether a surface or component is:

Horizontal

Vertical

Inclined

Sloping upward

Sloping downward

Positioned at a specified angle

The measurement result can be displayed in:

Degrees

Percentage

mm/m

in/ft

The correct unit depends on the drawing, installation requirement or working method used by the customer.

Why Does the LM320E Have Two Laser Lines?

A standard digital angle meter measures the surface that directly contacts the instrument.

The LM320E also projects two laser lines to extend the reference beyond its compact body.

This may help when:

Aligning brackets

Positioning shelves

Transferring an angle

Installing cabinets

Checking pipe direction

Comparing installation points

Following a reference across a wider area

The laser lines do not independently determine the angle.

The angle value comes from the internal angle sensor, while the lasers provide a visible positioning reference.

The user should therefore check both the digital reading and the physical placement of the instrument.

Absolute Angle Measurement

Absolute angle measurement shows the instrument’s angle according to its normal reference.

This mode is suitable when the user wants to check:

Whether a surface is level

Whether a frame is vertical

The slope of a pipe

The inclination of a machine component

The installation angle of a bracket

The contact surface should be clean, stable and sufficiently flat before the reading is accepted.

Relative Angle Measurement

Relative measurement allows the user to establish a selected surface as the zero reference.

The LM320E can then show the difference between that reference and another surface.

This function may be useful for:

Copying an existing angle

Comparing two components

Installing repeated brackets

Checking whether two surfaces have the same slope

Working from a reference that is not perfectly horizontal

Relative mode is particularly helpful when the required installation angle is based on an existing structure rather than the true horizontal level.

Magnetic Mounting on Metal Surfaces

The LM320E has magnetic mounting surfaces at the bottom and rear.

It can attach to suitable steel surfaces during measurement.

Possible applications include:

Steel frames

Machine bodies

Metal brackets

Fabricated components

Large steel pipes

Industrial equipment

Workshop structures

Magnetic mounting can help keep the instrument stable while the user adjusts the component.

However, the magnetic base does not correct an unsuitable measurement surface.

Rust, welding residue, metal particles, dirt and uneven surfaces can prevent the LM320E from sitting correctly.

The contact surface and magnetic base should be inspected before every important measurement.

Using the Rotating Colour Display

The LM320E has an illuminated display that rotates according to the instrument’s position.

This can make the result easier to read when the instrument is:

Placed horizontally

Mounted vertically

Attached to the side of equipment

Positioned upside down

Used in a restricted area

The display is useful for workshops, indoor installations and maintenance locations with limited lighting.

The user should still confirm that the selected measurement unit and reference mode are correct.

Machinery Installation Applications

The LM320E may assist maintenance teams when checking the inclination of:

Machine frames

Motor supports

Equipment bases

Adjustment plates

Metal guards

Mounted components

Its magnetic mounting can be convenient when working on steel machinery.

However, a digital angle meter does not replace a precision shaft-alignment system or machinery manufacturer’s approved alignment procedure.

If the job involves coupling alignment, shaft alignment or very small positional tolerances, dedicated alignment equipment may be required.

Steel Fabrication Applications

Fabricators may use the LM320E to check:

Frame angles

Welded brackets

Steel supports

Fabricated sections

Inclined members

Temporary positioning before welding

Several readings should be taken before final welding or fastening.

Heat distortion, welding movement and irregular steel surfaces can change the final position after the initial measurement.

Pipe and Bracket Installation

The LM320E can help check the slope of:

Metal pipes

Pipe supports

Cable trays

Drainage components

Mounting brackets

Inclined channels

Before adjustment, the installer should confirm the required slope from the project drawing or engineering specification.

A displayed percentage or mm/m result should not be accepted until the user confirms that the correct measurement unit has been selected.

Cabinet and Shelving Installation

The dual laser lines can assist when installing:

Cabinets

Shelves

Wall brackets

Storage systems

Interior fittings

Display fixtures

The digital angle reading helps the user compare multiple installation points.

For long-distance room layout or full-wall horizontal projection, a dedicated line laser may be more suitable.

Is the LM320E a Laser Level?

The LM320E is primarily a digital angle meter with two laser reference lines.

It should not automatically be treated as a replacement for a professional laser level.

Choose the LM320E when the main requirement is:

Measuring an angle

Checking a slope

Comparing two surfaces

Transferring an angle

Mounting the instrument on steel

Extending a short visible reference

Consider a dedicated line laser or rotary laser when the main requirement is:

Projecting long horizontal lines

Projecting full-room vertical lines

Setting out construction work

Levelling across a large area

Working outdoors with a laser receiver

Establishing elevation over a longer distance

Choosing according to the actual application is more important than choosing according to the number of laser lines.

Can the LM320E Replace a Spirit Level?

The LM320E can perform many general levelling and slope-checking tasks, but it does not make every spirit level unnecessary.

A longer spirit level may provide better physical contact across a wide or irregular surface.

The LM320E is more useful when the customer requires:

A numerical angle result

Several measurement units

Relative-angle measurement

Magnetic attachment

A compact instrument

Laser reference lines

Some users may benefit from carrying both instruments.

The spirit level provides a longer physical reference, while the LM320E provides a digital angle value and laser indication.

How to Take a More Repeatable Measurement

Before using the LM320E:

1. Clean the measurement surface.

2. Remove metal particles from the magnetic base.

3. Check that the instrument can sit flat.

4. Select the correct measurement unit.

5. Confirm whether absolute or relative mode is required.

6. Allow the displayed value to stabilise.

7. Repeat the reading from the same position.

8. Compare the result with a known reference when necessary.

9. Mark the exact measurement position for repeated work.

10. Avoid using the laser line alone as the angle result.

If small changes in placement produce large differences, the surface or measurement method should be evaluated before continuing.

Laser Safety During Use

The LM320E uses a Class 2 laser.

Users should not stare directly into the laser beam.

The beam should not be intentionally directed toward:

A person’s eyes

Passing workers

Drivers

Reflective surfaces

Aircraft

Public areas without proper control

Extra care is required when working around polished metal, glass or mirrors because the beam may be reflected.

The laser should be switched off when it is not needed.

When May the LM320E Be Unsuitable?

Another instrument may be more appropriate when:

The required accuracy is tighter than the LM320E specification

The surface is too narrow or uneven

The measurement area is affected by vibration

Precision machinery alignment is required

Long-distance construction levelling is required

Outdoor laser visibility is essential

A laser receiver must be used

The installation follows a specialised engineering standard

A stable display does not automatically confirm that the selected instrument is suitable for the required tolerance.

Who Should Consider the UNI-T LM320E?

The LM320E may be suitable for:

Mechanical contractors

Machinery installers

Fabrication workshops

Pipe installers

Steel-structure contractors

Building maintenance teams

Renovation contractors

Cabinet installers

Interior fit-out contractors

Technical training centres

General industrial users
