MTM Precision recently conducted an on-site training and practical demonstration for the WR030TR 120m Pipe Inspection Robot in Malaysia.
The purpose of the training was not only to introduce the equipment, but to allow the customer and site team to understand the actual operating workflow before using the crawler for pipeline inspection work.
During the practical session, the team went through the crawler system, cable reel and control operation directly at the work site.

The WR030 platform incorporates a motorised four-wheel crawler, front and rear camera system, adjustable lighting, electronic meter counter and automatic cable winding.
For the WR030TR configuration, the system also includes 512Hz locating capability for applications where the crawler position needs to be correlated with the surface.
Practical Crawler Operation Training
During training, operators can become familiar with important functions such as crawler movement, speed selection, camera viewing and cable handling.
The objective is to understand the complete inspection process rather than simply learning how to move the robot.
A typical field workflow is:
SET UP → TEST → DEPLOY → INSPECT → RECORD → RETRIEVE
This is particularly important when working with longer inspection distances.
Camera & Inspection Control
The WR030 system provides a 2MP front inspection camera with 360° horizontal movement, together with a 2MP rear camera.
During a pipeline inspection, the front camera is used to examine the pipe ahead and inspect areas of interest.
When returning the crawler, the rear camera becomes useful for monitoring the direction of reverse travel.
For operators, learning when to use the front and rear views is an important part of practical training.
Cable Management for 120m Inspection
A long-distance crawler is not only about having a longer cable.
Operators also need to understand how to manage cable deployment and retrieval correctly.
The WR030 system incorporates an automatic cable winding mechanism and electronic meter counter.
During crawler retrieval, cable winding should be coordinated with the crawler's reverse movement.

Electronic Distance Reference
During inspection, the electronic meter counter can provide an approximate reference for how far the crawler has travelled from the starting point.
For example, instead of reporting only:
“An area requiring investigation was found inside the pipe.”
the operator can record:
“Area observed at approximately 45m from the inspection starting point.”
This makes the CCTV inspection information more useful for subsequent maintenance work.
512Hz Locating Workflow
For WR030TR, the inspection workflow can go one step further.
When an area of interest is identified underground:
Camera = WHAT was observed
Meter Counter = HOW FAR along the inspection route
512Hz Locator = assists with WHERE the crawler is relative to the surface
This creates a practical workflow:
INSPECT → MEASURE → RECORD → LOCATE → PLAN
The 512Hz figure refers to the locating frequency and should not be confused with cable length or locating depth.

The operator may need to monitor the camera image, crawler direction, speed, cable movement, distance reading and crawler return.
