Eranntex MS104K-M Daily Inspection Checklist Before Use Malaysia
Switching on a gas detector is not enough to prove that it is ready for safety-critical work.
Before using an Eranntex MS104K-M portable multi-gas detector, the operator should inspect the instrument, verify its status and complete the checks required by the workplace procedure.
This is especially important before confined-space entry, tank inspection, sewer work and industrial maintenance.
1. Confirm the Detector Configuration
Check which sensors are installed in the MS104K-M.
A common four-gas configuration is:
EX: Combustible gas
O₂: Oxygen
CO: Carbon monoxide
H₂S: Hydrogen sulphide
Do not assume that every MS104K-M contains the same sensors.
Confirm that the installed gases and measuring ranges match the hazards identified for the job.
2. Inspect the Housing
Check the detector for:
Cracks
Loose components
Impact damage
Missing screws
Damaged buttons
Broken screen
Contamination
Signs of water entry
Damaged charging port
A detector that has been dropped or damaged may require inspection and functional testing before use.
3. Check the Sensor Inlets
The sensor openings must be clear so that gas can reach the sensors.
Look for:
Dust
Mud
Oil
Paint
Tape
Plastic covering
Water
Chemical residue
Blocked filters
Do not operate the instrument when its gas inlets are covered by clothing or other equipment.
4. Check the Battery
Confirm that the battery has enough capacity for the planned work period.
Consider:
Expected job duration
Travel time
Pump operation
Data-logging requirements
Temperature
Availability of charging facilities
Need for emergency or standby operation
Pump-suction measurement may consume more power than diffusion monitoring.
A low battery should not be accepted for work where the detector must operate continuously.
5. Switch On in a Safe Atmosphere
Power on the detector in an atmosphere known to be safe whenever possible.
Observe:
Startup self-test
Display condition
Installed sensor information
Battery indication
Audible alarm
Visual alarm
Vibration alarm
Error messages
Calibration reminder
Date and time, where relevant
Do not ignore a warning simply because the detector continues to display readings.
6. Check the Oxygen Reading
In known fresh air, the oxygen reading should be close to the expected atmospheric level.
An unusual O₂ reading may indicate:
The atmosphere is not clean
Incorrect fresh-air adjustment
Calibration drift
Sensor ageing
Temperature or pressure effects
Sensor fault
Do not automatically perform fresh-air adjustment unless the atmosphere is confirmed to be clean.
7. Check Other Sensor Readings
In clean air, toxic and combustible sensors would normally be expected to show readings close to their clean-air baseline.
An unexpected reading may be caused by:
Actual gas presence
Contaminated atmosphere
Cross-sensitive substances
Contaminated sampling components
Calibration drift
Sensor recovery after exposure
Sensor fault
Treat unexplained readings seriously until the cause is identified.
8. Perform the Required Bump Test
A bump test exposes the detector to known test gas to confirm:
Sensors respond
Readings increase
Audible alarm works
Visual alarm works
Vibration alarm works
Gas can reach the sensors
A bump test does not replace full calibration.
If the MS104K-M fails the bump test, remove it from safety use until it has been inspected and corrected.
9. Confirm Calibration Status
Check:
Last calibration date
Next due date
Calibration result
Installed sensors and ranges
Instrument serial number
Required certificate
Company or project interval
Calibration verifies and adjusts measurement accuracy using certified reference gas.
A detector with overdue calibration may not meet the organisation’s safety or documentation requirements.
10. Inspect the External Pump
When pump-suction sampling is required, check:
Pump attachment
Pump battery
Airflow
Electrical connection
Mechanical connection
Flow setting
Pump-blockage warning
Pump noise and vibration
Pump noise alone does not prove that sufficient sample flow is reaching the sensors.
11. Check the Sampling Hose
Inspect the full hose for:
Cuts
Loose connections
Sharp bends
Crushed sections
Water
Condensation
Chemical contamination
Blockage
Incorrect material
Excessive length
The hose must be suitable for the target gas.
Some gases or vapours may be absorbed by inappropriate tubing materials.
12. Check the Probe, Filter and Water Trap
Inspect all sampling accessories.
Replace any component that is:
Wet
Clogged
Damaged
Heavily contaminated
Incorrectly installed
Unsuitable for the application
Do not remove required filters merely to increase pump flow.
For wet environments, confirm that the appropriate water trap or moisture protection is installed.
13. Test the Pump-Blockage Alarm
Follow the approved procedure to verify the pump-blockage warning.
The detector or pump should recognise restricted flow and produce the appropriate alarm.
After the test:
Restore normal airflow
Confirm that the warning clears
Check that the pump operates normally
Complete a functional gas test where required
Do not begin remote sampling if the blockage alarm does not operate correctly.
14. Review Alarm Settings
Confirm that alarm settings are appropriate for:
The installed gas
Workplace procedure
Project requirements
Applicable exposure limits
Confined-space entry plan
Emergency-response arrangements
Do not change alarm thresholds merely to prevent frequent alarms.
Any adjustment should be authorised and documented according to the organisation’s procedure.
15. Confirm Sampling Time
When using a hose, allow time for the sample to travel from the sampling point to the sensors.
The total response time depends on:
Hose length
Pump flow
Hose diameter
Sensor response
Filters
Target gas
Include this delay when planning tests at multiple depths or locations.
16. Review the Worksite Hazards
Before starting work, confirm:
Which gases may be present
Possible sources
Expected concentrations
Ventilation conditions
Required sampling locations
Ignition sources
Emergency exit route
Rescue arrangements
Communication method
Frequency of monitoring
A gas detector cannot compensate for an incomplete risk assessment.
17. Record the Inspection
A daily inspection record may include:
Date and time
Detector model
Serial number
User name
Sensor configuration
Battery condition
Bump-test result
Calibration status
Pump and hose condition
Faults identified
Corrective action
Approval for use
Records help demonstrate that the equipment was checked before deployment.
Do Not Use the Detector When
Remove the MS104K-M from service if:
It fails a bump test
Calibration cannot be completed
A sensor error appears
The pump does not operate correctly
The sampling line remains blocked
The housing is seriously damaged
Gas inlets are contaminated
Readings are unstable
Alarms do not function
The battery cannot support the job
The installed sensors do not match the hazards
Provide a suitable replacement detector before the work proceeds.
