What to Record After Testing Network Cables with a NOYAFA Tester Malaysia
After checking a network cable, should you record only βpassβ or βfailβ?
A useful maintenance record also identifies the cable, tester, function used and actual result.
For installers and facilities teams in Malaysia, these details make troubleshooting and handovers easier.
Record what the instrument checked, rather than making a broader claim about the whole network.
1. Identify Both Cable Endpoints
Start with clear location references.
Record:
Room or work area
Wall-outlet label
Patch-panel number
Cable identifier
Other endpoint, where applicable
For example, βMeeting Room A, Outlet 03 to Patch Panel 1, Port 12β is more useful than βoffice cableβ.
An accurate test result becomes difficult to use if nobody knows which cable it belongs to.
2. Record the Tester and Function
Include the NOYAFA model and the function used.
Possible functions, depending on the model, include:
Wiremap testing
Cable tracing
Length measurement
Endpoint identification
PoE-related checks
These functions answer different questions.
A successful tracing result does not mean the cable passed a wiring test.
Use the exact function name shown in the instrument manual or interface.
3. Describe the Actual Result
Avoid using βpassβ without explaining the scope.
More useful entries include:
Wiremap connections displayed as expected
Open conductor indicated on the displayed pin
Remote not detected
Cable endpoint identified and label updated
Length reading recorded with its unit
If the instrument shows a fault diagram, photograph or save it where practical.
Do not add fault details that the tester did not establish.
4. Note the Connection Conditions
Record whether the cable was tested:
As a separate patch cable
Through installed outlets
Through couplers or patch leads
Disconnected from equipment
Connected under a mode permitted by the manufacturer
This helps another technician understand the measurement path.
A test through several connectors is different from checking one patch lead directly.
5. Record Corrective Work and the Retest
If a problem is found, document the action taken.
Examples include:
Patch lead replaced
Plug reterminated
Outlet connection corrected
Damaged cable referred for replacement
Further investigation requested
Then record the result of any appropriate retest.
Keep the original finding and the final result separate.
This shows what changed and whether the observed problem was resolved.

6. Keep Maintenance Checks Separate from Certification
A basic cable-testing record can support troubleshooting and routine maintenance.
It should not be presented as formal cabling certification unless the instrument, procedure and report meet the specified acceptance requirements.
Likewise, a correct wiremap alone does not establish network throughput or internet connectivity.
State the scope clearly so the record remains accurate and useful.
