No. Basic continuity, sequence and length testing are not the same as professional cable certification.

A certification tester measures performance parameters such as:

  • Attenuation-to-crosstalk ratio

  • Propagation delay

  • Delay skew

  • Resistance

  • Pass/fail compliance with a selected cabling standard

The NK281 is suitable for basic installation checks and troubleshooting. It should not be promoted as a replacement for a professional Cat 6 or Cat 6A certifier.

Can NK281 Trace a Network Cable?

Cable tracing normally requires a tone generator and a compatible probe.

The NK281’s wire-map and length functions should not automatically be described as cable tracing unless the purchased version includes a compatible tracing receiver.
